NXT Results (1/9): Aleister Black and Tomasso Ciampa Brawl, EC3 Battles Adam Cole, More

Johnny Gargano kicked off the show with a smile on his face and a pep in his step. He actually came off as a babyface again, which surely left many wondering what was going on. Gargano said that the only things that mattered in NXT were wins and championships. He then said he will become a champion in 2019.

Johnny Wrestling also commented on current NXT champion Tomasso Ciampa and dismissed the idea of a DIY reunion. Gargano then moved on to Ricochet and the North American Championship. This brought Ricochet out to the ring for a confrontation.

Ric asked if Johnny was going to take the title from him like a man or if he was going to take it from him after attacking him in a parking lot. Ricochet then said that he was going to walk out of Takeover: Phoenix with the North American title.

Ciampa then came out and but Johnny surprisingly shut him down. This led to another appearance, this time by Aleister Black, who was on the big screen. Black addressed Ciampa and said that was going to make the champ fade to black. When the lights came back up, Aleister was behind Tomasso and the two men started brawling through the bundling.

Gargano hit a super kick on Ricochet, laying out the North American champion.

The first match on the program is Bianca Belair versus Nikki Cross. This was an extremely intense, hard-fought match. The two women gave maximum effort and the bout quickly began to feel like a championship match. Stiff shots and a hard slam on the steel ramp gave Belair the advantage over the psychotic Cross. Though Nikki battled back, she lost to the K.O.D and Belair picked up the win.

Winner: Bianca Belair

The Street Profits cut a promo backstage, where they rapped their intentions to take over in 2019. They said that 2018 contain a lot of locked doors but they were going to start opening doors in the new year. They reminded fans that they’ve never lost and they called out several teams, including current tag champs The Undisputed Era.

Up next is a tag team match featuring Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel, also known as The European Union. The two men made quick work of their opponents and looked very good in the process.

Winners: Aichner and Barthel

The program cut to Cathy Kelley outside, who interviewed Ricochet. The North American champ made it known that he wants Gargano whether General Manager William Regal signs off on the match or not. Ric said that he had lost all respect for Johnny and that he was going to take him out.

A look back at the last match between Kassius Ohno and Matt Riddle is shown, including Ohno’s vicious attack on Riddle after the match. Riddle has supposedly not been cleared to compete in NXT as of yet. Keith Lee appeared backstage and was asked about the attack and challenged Ohno to a match next week.

The main event between EC3 and Adam Cole is up next. The entire Undisputed Era accompanied Cole to the ring and stayed at ringside as the match began.

The match was full of great intensity as fans expected it would be. But it was also full of distractions, which ultimately led to a surprise superkick from Cole, who won the match. The Undisputed Era then attacked EC3 after the bell but The War Raiders ran down to make the save.

They laid out Cole and company, as the fans chanted “war!” The Undisputed Era was indeed rocked and they crawled back up the ramp as The War Raiders held their ground in the ring.
