Politico noted that the powerful Ricketts family did not back Trump until the billionaire sealed up the Republican presidential nomination.
The conservative family initially helped fund an anti-Trump super PAC, the news outlet added, and Todd Ricketts first supported Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s presidential bid.
Multiple reports late Wednesday said Trump is expected to choose Wilbur Ross Jr., one of his earliest supporters, to become the next Commerce secretary.
Two senior-level Trump transition team sources told ABC News that Trump will select the billionaire. The Wall Street Journal also reported Trump’s choice Wednesday evening.
Trump’s transition team said that no decision has been made about the position, according to the Journal.
Bloomberg also reported Ross’s expected appointment, and added that Ricketts was in line to be picked for deputy secretary.
Trump hinted at his decision when he met with Ross last Sunday: “Commerce Secretary, that’s what we’re looking for,” he told reporters, gesturing toward Ross.
