Dragon Wrestlers to Travel to Midwest Classic
MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team will travel to Indianapolis, Ind. for the Midwest Classic tournament on Dec. 16. This will be the final regular season tournament of 2017-18 for the Dragons as the rest of the season will be dual meet competitions.
The Dragons are coming off a 35-9 loss to Division III Augsburg, who are ranked No. 2 in Division III. In that dual, the Dragons picked up wins at 285 and 141, with Tommy Walton picking up a pin at 141. Redshirt freshman Jordan Magnuson won at 285.
The Dragons are led on the season by junior Adam Blees, who has a 12-4 record at 174. Evan Foster has a 9-3 record at 197 (unattached) while Jordan Magnuson has an 8-3 record. Redshirt freshman Mason Schulz has compiled a 13-6 record while competing unattached, while freshman Cole Jones is 11-6 on the season at 125 pounds.
The Dragons are led by head coach Kris Nelson, who is in his ninth season. He is assisted by Blake Bosch (first season), Justin Solberg (third season), Bret Maughan (third season) and Tyler Lehmann (first season).
After the Midwest Classic, the Dragons will get some time off before entering NSIC duals, starting with a road trip to Mankato and Fayette, Iowa on Jan. 11-12.
About the Midwest Classic
Hosted by the University of Indianapolis, the Midwest Classic is in its 39th season. Annually one of the top tournaments in college wrestling, it traditionally attracts the top teams in the nation.
