IMPACT Wrestling vs. Lucha Underground Results
April 6, 2018

Report by Mike Killam for ProWrestling.com

– Matt Striker and Josh Matthews welcome us to tonight’s show as we go down to both ring announcers currently standing by. They ask the crowd if they’re ready for Lucha Underground and everyone goes crazy. When they ask who’s ready for IMPACT everyone boos.

(1) MATANZA CUETO def. MOOSE, JACK EVANS, MATT SYDAL, CHAVO GUERRERO & CALEB KONLEY in a 6-Pack Challenge. Wild match with Jack Evans and Caleb Konley really shinning through with the biggest spots and their insanely smooth counter grappling. It took all four smaller guys working together to stop Matanza from murdering everyone, and clearly it didn’t work. Give Konley credit though, he did manage to single-handedly chop down and dispose of Moose, then turned around into a colossal Tour of the Islands from Matanza.

(2) ALLIE (c) def. TAYA VALKYRIE to retain the Knockouts Championship. The challenger bullied Allie around the ring for the fist few minutes just easily raining down on her with right hands, and stomped a mud hole in the corner. Allie found her courage and hulked up, screaming at Taya and flying off with wild rights and lefts, but gets put back down with a stiff lariat. Taya dominated the bulk of the action and told a great story with Allie constantly showing heart and coming back through everything. The champ finally put it away with a Codebreaker into a double knee backbreaker to retain.

(3) SCOTT STEINER & TEDDY HART def. JAKE & DAVE CRIST (OVE). Teddy worked a bulk of the match and had some good offense, even hitting a Destroyer off the second rope to Dave. Big Poppa Pump eventually tagged in and cleaned house, before slapping the Steiner Recliner on Jake and making him tap out. He threw the referee out of the ring after the match just for kicks.

(4) DRAGO, AEROSTAR & KING CUERNO def. ANDREW EVERETT, DEZMOND XAVIER & DJZ in a six-man tag team match. Amazing back and forth between DJZ and Aerostar to kick things off, who are basically each other’s yin and yang, both in their ring work and physical appearance. I’m not sure what happened but Cuerno was bleeding all down his side from what looked like his right nipple. Ouch. Dez did a little showboating kissing his muscles and taunting his opponents, but backed it up with some cool sequences, building up to DJZ doing a crazy dive to the floor taking out 3-4 guys at a time. Dez then did a Sasuka Special to take out everyone in the match, just because he can. The last few minutes were absolutely insane. Dez did a 619 on the outside of the ring using the post, a few Destroyers were hit, a million more dives… I was out of breath sitting at home.

(5) TREVOR LEE def. MARTY THE MOTH. Bizarre match. Marty kept smiling and laughing through every move that Trevor gave to him. There was a spot where Trevor didn’t effectively beat him bad enough in the corner so Marty started slamming his own head into the turnbuckles. Lee got a quick win with a roll-up

(6) LAX (c) def. KILLSHOT & THE MACK to retain the IMPACT Tag Tag Championships. LAX ran about half a dozen crazy tandem moves in a row at the end before hitting the 5150 to pin Killshot and retain the titles.

(7) BRIAN CAGE def. ELI DRAKE. Long promo from Drake before the bout getting the crowd all fired up. Cage got the win reversing Gravy Train into Weapon X.

(8) JEREMIAH CRANE def. EDDIE EDWARDS in an “I QUIT” match via forfeit. Absolutely brutal match. There had to be 200 chair shots. At one point there were like a dozen chairs in the ring and Eddie was just pelting Sami with them in the face over and over again. He took a powerbomb into a huge stretch of metal barricade, nearly bending it in half. This was not a pretty match, but it was almost cringe-worthy brutal in certain places. In the end OVE came out and Sami blasted Eddie with a chair. He got his baseball bat and threatened to do the infamous spot again, but Don Callis came out and threw in the towel.

(9) PENTAGON DARK def. AUSTIN ARIES and REY FENIX in a triple threat match. Alberto el Patron reportedly no-showed the event so this was changed at the last minute. Really incredible match with all three really bringing their best efforts. Penta and Fenix can work each other in their sleep. Penta eventually got the win over Fenix with an insane flipping powerbomb and the Pentagon Diver.
