MSU-Moorhead Adds Three California Recruits for 2013-14
MOORHEAD, Minn. — Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling coach Kris Nelson has announced the addition of three more recruits for the 2013-14 season. Joining the Dragons this fall will be Shawn Porter of Elk Grove, Calif., Michael Joseph of San Diego, Calif., and Chris Bascon of San Diego, Calif.
“All three wrestlers will be great additions to our upper weights and look for them to battle for starting sports in their first year at MSUM,” Nelson said.
Porter was a two-time California Junior College State placewinner at Sacramento City College, taking fourth at 157 pounds and seventh at 165 pounds. He was also Academic All-American. Porter is projected to compete for time at 157 and 165 pounds. He competed at Elk Grove High School in California.
Joseph placed third at 165 pounds at the 2012 California Community College State Championships, and was seventh the previous year. He is projected to compete at 174 pounds. Joseph competed at Patrick Henry High School.
Bascon was a CCCSC entrant at 174 pounds in 2012 and is expected to compete at 184 pounds. Bascon compete at Mount Carmel High School.
The three transfers join prep standouts Blake Bosch of Wishek, N.D., Dylan Bowen of Hillsboro, N.D., Garret Hoffner of Mahnomen, Minn., Kyle Johnson of Barnesville, Minn., Jorge Munoz-Pederson of Kerkhoven, Minn., Shane Novak of New York Mills, Minn., and Tyler Schlosser of Parkers Prairie, Minn., as Dragon recruits for 2013-14.
