Begins lead SMSU to a 22-13 win over St. John’s

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Jacob Begin took his fourth straight win with a pin of David Rademacher at 5:21 in the 174 pound bout to lead Southwest Minnesota State to a 22-13 dual victory over Saint John’s (Minn.) on Friday night. SMSU took six of the 10 matches to take the decision.

SMSU opened up the match with a 6-0 lead as Anotonio Meikel and Justin Reinsma took straight decisions for the Mustangs. SJU would answer by taking the next three straight bouts to take a 7-6 lead as No. 5 Ben Henle got a 12-4 major decision over Ethan Hildebrandt. SMSU would close out the match by taking four of the final five bouts as Kyle Begin (165), Jacob Begin (174), Andrew Rodas (184), and Cole Wilson (285) earned bout victories. Kyle Begin and Wilson took decisions, while Rodas won by major and Jacob Begin won by fall.

Both the Johnnies and the Mustangs are scheduled to compete at the St. Cloud State Husky Open at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, in Halenbeck Hall.
