Bison Wrestling 21st in Intermat Poll; Three Individuals in Top 20

The North Dakota State wrestling team is ranked 21st in the latest Intermat team rankings released Tuesday, Mar. 4. In addition, three Bison wrestlers find themselves ranked among the top 20 wrestlers in the nation at their respective weight classes.

The Intermat rankings project team placing at the NCAA Championships, which will be held Mar. 20-22 in Oklahoma City, Okla. At No. 21, the Bison are the highest-ranked team from the Western Wrestling Conference.

Senior 165-pounder Steven Monk continues to be ranked No. 3 in the nation by Intermat and TheOpenMat.com, as well as coming in third in the final NCAA coaches’ panel rankings. Monk is 29-1 this season and is currently on a 22-match winning streak.

Sophomore 174-pounder Hayden Zillmer is 10th in the final NCAA coaches’ panel rankings, 12th by Intermat, and 14th by TheOpenMat.com. Zillmer has posted a record of 24-6 so far this season.

Junior 184-pounder Kurtis Julson is pegged at 18th by TheOpenMat.com, 20th by Intermat, and 23rd in the NCAA coaches’ panel rankings after going 20-9 in the regular season.

Junior heavyweight Evan Knutson and redshirt freshman 197-pounder Tyler Lehmann came in at 29th and 30th, respectively, in the coaches’ panel rankings that extend through the top 33 in Division I.

The Bison will compete at the NCAA West Regional in Orem, Utah, on Saturday, Mar. 8, in search of NCAA Championships qualifying spots.
