WWE Smackdown results (10/1): The Kane & Seth Rollins show

– Air Date: October 1, 2015 (Sept 30 in Canada)

– Location: Times Union Center in Albany, NY

The Big News:

Kane laid out the Dudleys and New Day at the end of Smackdown. Also, Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt are having a Hell in a Cell match apparently.

Show Recap:

Seth Rollins came out with a mic in hand on the way down to the ring. He interrupted Lilian Garcia’s introduction and ranted about Kane. Rollins called corporate Kane an act and called him out. Kane eventually came out on crutches without his music.

Kane called Rollins a spoiled brat but he smiled all the way through it until Rollins re-injured his his leg on Raw. Rollins said Kane started it by attacking him at Night of Champions and by coming through the mat, trying to drag him to hell. Rollins said it’s obviously an act and it was proven on Raw when Kane came out of the ambulance as demon Kane.

After all that, Rollins said Kane needs psychiatric help, which he’s mentioned many times already. Kane said Rollins is the one who needs help. Kane kept up the act and said he’s just the director of operations. Kane accused of Rollins of making excuses so he doesn’t have to face John Cena in a cage at MSG.

Kane acknowledged that there’s a demon tormenting Rollins, but it’s not him. Kane called Rollins a “negative Nancy” so he teamed Seth with The New Day against the Dudley Boyz and “the demon.” Rollins didn’t want to be in a random tag match, but a light bulb went off over his head and said he would do it if corporate Kane sat at ringside. Kane agreed.

This was 8-9 minutes long and not good. The crowd was dead silent throughout. Rich Brennan did a poor job recapping it as well. I guess it’s hard to blame him. It’s stupid.

Team B.A.D. beat Team Bella via pinfall

Naomi and Sasha Banks said nobody cares who started the revolution. Banks said Charlotte and Becky can keep crying and the Bellas can keep yapping about about Nikki’s “stupid” reign. Banks said Team B.A.D. would end the revolution.

Brie tossed down Banks and used Yes Kicks but Banks ducked the last one and used a school boy for two. Tamina blind tagged in and double clotheslined Brie and Alicia Fox. Nikki tried and failed to take out Tamina who hit a Samoan drop.

Naomi had the heat on Nikki after a break. Naomi fought off Brie and Fox but Nikki knocked her down with an elbow. Banks made the hot tag, knocked Brie and Fox off the apron, and followed with a clothesline and double knee strike on Nikki.

Fox broke up the cover and took out Naomi with a big boot. Tamina took her out with a kick and Banks tossed out Brie. Nikki elbowed Banks but was distracted by Tamina, so Sasha hit the Bank Statement and Nikki tapped. The crowd was silent for most of this but they liked Sasha Banks.

Jerry Lawler, who was the voice of reason last week regarding the Kane storyline, is now playing along and said corporate Kane and demon Kane are two different people.

Backstage, New Day caught up with Rollins who didn’t want to hear their crap. Rollins said clapping wouldn’t make the demon go away. Kingston and Big E told him that clapping would help him achieve his goals and make him happy.

Woods said clapping would help remove Kane from authority, save the tables and make WWE great again. Big E convinced Rollins to chant “I’m the man” to the tune of “New Day rocks.” Woods played the trombone and they all danced off together. This was good.

Elsewhere, Charlotte told Jo-Jo that Team PCB was on top of the [women’s] division but all of a sudden Paige started her entitled, spoiled brat campaign. Lynch was about to provide some advice for Paige when Paige showed up suddenly. (They somehow didn’t see her walk up to them until the camera panned out).

Paige wanted to hear Lynch’s advice but they began bickering. Charlotte said Paige needs to pick a side. Paige didn’t appreciate the ultimatum. Charlotte and Lynch left, Paige turned around and Natalya was right behind her. Natalya told Paige that if she ever disrespects her again, Paige will be sorry they ever met. Natayla was good but the rest was bad.

Ryback beat IC Champion Kevin Owens via countout

As Owens came to the ring, he pointed at a young fan holding a toy IC Title belt and said, “Mine’s real. Mine’s real. Yours is a toy.” He then looked at the camera and said, “Stupid kid.”

Owens immediately bailed to the outside when the match started, but Ryback followed him out and hit a scoop slam back in the ring, as well as a delayed vertical suplex. Ryback went shoulder-first into the ring post and Owens followed with a DDT for two. Owens took over from there, but Ryback came back with belly-to-belly suplex, shoulder block and power slam for two.

Owens slapped Ryback in the face, so Ryback clubbed him repeatedly in the corner. The referee backed him off, allowing Owens to hit a superkick for a near fall. Owens tried a pop-up powerbomb but Ryback countered with a spinebuster and meat hook clothesline. Ryback went for shell shocked but Owens escaped the ring.

They did a double clothesline spot outside the ring. Ryback got back in before the 10 count, but Owens didn’t bother even though he was fine. The bell rang, Owens said “What an idiot,” grabbed his title, and left. After the match, Owens tried to attack Ryback but ate a clothesline and shell shocked. Ryback posed to his music. This was ok. Crap finish but that was expected.

They plugged how many views they get on YouTube, presumably from people who don’t spend 5 hours watching Raw and Smackdown every week. They also plugged Brock Lesnar vs. Big Show for MSG.

Neville & Lucha Dragons beat Stardust & The Ascension via pinfall

Again? Booker T randomly buried the city of Buffalo, wondering why Wade Barrett would make his return there (on Raw). Booker then credited Neville for not climbing up the ladder too fast, and suggested that teaming with the Lucha Dragons might be good for him. What the hell? Kalisto won with Salida del Sol on Konnor.

They recapped the Bray Wyatt/Roman Reigns match from Raw. They didn’t show they “Yes” chants after Reigns speared Wyatt.

Bray Wyatt came out for a nonsensical promo with his two goons standing behind him. He rambled about nothing for a bit until Roman Reigns interrupted. Reigns got in his face and they stared down for a while. Bray was about to speak but Reigns took the mic away. They stared down some more.

Reigns said “Hell in a Cell” and tossed the mic at Bray. Bray nodded. Reigns left and Bray yelled “I hope you’re willing to die!” I think this was supposed to be a big, dramatic announcement but it fell flat. The crowd was silent as they stared at each other. I’m not sure why Reigns would want to wait 3 or 4 weeks just because the next big event is conveniently named.

The Dudley Boyz & Kane beat Seth Rollins, Kofi Kingston & Big E (w/Xavier Woods)

Corporate Kane was already at ringside before everyone entered. Kane’s music hit after everyone else entered, but of course nobody came out. Kane said he didn’t know where the demon was and asked that they start the match.

Rollins hit a suicide dive on D-Von, but Kane (purposely) stepped in front and got knocked down as well. Kane sold his leg and was helped to the back. As Kane left, Rollins followed him up the ramp and demanded he go back to his seat. Kane looked back and smiled at him before leaving. Rollins looked terrified. Maybe Rollins should’ve just attacked Kane before he could go change his clothes.

Back in the ring, Bubba came in on a hot tag and D-Von hit a “dive” on Woods and Big E. Kane’s music hit and he came out in his gear and mask and went right after Rollins. Kane tried to use a chokeslam on the outside but Rollins escaped through the crowd. Kingston was distracted so the Dudleys hit him with 3D for the win.

Afterwards, Kane stared at the WWE title belt. Bubba tried to raise his hand so Kane chokeslammed him. Kane also chokeslammed D-Von, and did a double chokeslam on Kingston and Big E. He finished off Woods with a tombstone and stood tall with the title as Rollins looked on. Kane should not have laid out the Dudleys.

Final Thoughts:

Boring.
