Dean Ambrose undergoes surgery for triceps injury
After WWE noted that it was the most likely outcome, Dean Ambrose underwent surgery in Birmingham, Alabama last night to repair his triceps injury.
WWE.com provided an update on Ambrose today, noting that the surgery was successful and took about 40 minutes. It was performed by Dr. Jeffrey Dugas of the Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center, who told WWE.com that Ambrose “tore some of the distal triceps tendon where it attaches to the forearm bone, called the olecranon.” Dugas said about 50 percent of the tendon was torn away from the bone, with the surgery being done to repair that back to where it tore off.
“The surgery was very straightforward; we removed all of the extra bursal tissue — all of that extra swollen stuff around his elbow,” Dugas said.
Ambrose has already begun physical therapy with light range-of-motion exercises. WWE’s update says that they don’t know how long he will be out of action for at this time.
As Dave Meltzer reported, Ambrose came to television hurt on Monday night and WWE did an injury angle on Raw to cover for it. Ambrose acted like he injured his elbow in a six-man tag match and was later attacked by Samoa Joe in a backstage segment.
