Viking’s Amo Named First Team All-NSIC

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Augustana wrestling senior Aero Amo has been voted by the coaches of the NSIC as the first team All-NSIC representative at 184 pounds, the league office announced on Thursday.

Amo, a senior from Rapid City, S.D., earns his third first-team All-NSIC honor and his fourth All-NSIC selection of his career. Amo finished the 2017-18 regular season with a record of 10-2 including a mark of 8-0 in NSIC dual matches.

In his career, Amo has a career record of 123-29 and is a returning All-American after finishing in fifth at nationals. Amo is also a two-time Super Region 3 champion at 184 pounds in his career and ranks third in school history in tech falls with 19, fifth in wins and sixth in falls with 43.

U-Mary swept the Athlete of the Year honors. Tate Barnhardt was named Wrestler of the Year, Phillip Springsteen was named Rookie of the Year and Adam Aho earned coach of the year. Of the first and second team honorees, St. Cloud State led the way with six selections, followed by Upper Iowa (four), Minnesota State (four), U-Mary (two) and Augustana, Northern State, Minot State and MSU Moorhead each had one selection.

This was the first year that coaches voted on the All-NSIC team. Previous teams were selected based on regional finish.

Augustana gears up for a postseason run at the Super Region 3 Championships on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-24 in St. Cloud, Minn.
