WWE Hypes New Tag Team Champs for SmackDown Live
WWE issued a series of tweets on Saturday to hype segments for this Tuesday’s SmackDown Live show at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, including the crowning of new tag team champions.
The major problem with The Hardy Boyz relinquishing the tag belts last week due to Jeff Hardy’s knee injury is that the Blue Brand tag team division got gutted over the past month. Former champions The Usos headed to RAW as well as Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows. In addition, injuries to Big E of the New Day and Sheamus of The Bar put those teams out of action and even had Cesaro moved to RAW. Furthermore, Sanity broke up with Eric Young going to RAW and Killian Dain and Alexander Wolfe to NXT. Meanwhile, Ricochet and Aleister Black separated as a tag team with The One and Only going to RAW and Black to SmackDown.
So, the cast of candidates to become champions on SmackDown seems rather thin at the moment. The likely suspects consist of Rusev and Shinsuke Nakamura, Heavy Machinery, The B-Team, The Colons or possibly WWE Champion Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods if Woods gets better from his storyline injury suffered at the hands of Kevin Owens.
In addition to Shane McMahon determining the new tag team champs, SmackDown is also advertising a showdown between Money in the Bank ladder match competitors Ali and Andrade, a six-woman tag match featuring Charlotte Flair, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville against Carmella, Ember Moon and Bayley and a response from KO over the assault he received from Kingston.
