Déjà-vu for RC Cannes

Hazy evening for both French teams engaged in Champions League last night. Cannes’s plans Cannes started poorly (0-1) against a young and enthusiast Serbian team that had not once showed any sign of intimidation whatsoever. Not one moment did the victory come in for granted for the French champions, there was a hard battle on the net and only experience made the difference tonight. Cannes claimed the tie break 18-16 thanks to a flawless reception and an exquisite game of both middle blockers and keep the second position in Pool E, closely following VakifBank Istanbul who scored as well a five sets victory tonight against Nordmeccanica Piacenza.

The other team engaged in Champions League, Nantes VB, lost against Stiinta Bacau, only to provide the Romanian leader with the first victory of their European journey. Stiinta claimed their first points; Nantes, on the other hand, got to see their chances to continue their European adventure compromised. Wednesday evening was a battle held in the middle of the net, as both Alexandra Sobo (Stiinta Bacau) and Angie Bland (Nantes VB) topped the scorers’ stats with 19 and 15 points respectively.

Béziers, the only French team engaged in CEV Cup, managed to repeat last week’s performance, cruising over Naturhouse Ciudad de Logrono for the second time to qualify for the Challenge Round of the 2015 CEV Volleyball Cup (3-0: 25-18, 25-14, 25-20). After claiming an amazing away victory over AON Pannaxiakos Naxos, Le Cannet inexplicably slipped from their grasp the qualification to the next round. Final result: 2-3 (25-20, 25-19, 23-25, 18-25, 11-15), Le Cannet eliminated from Challenge Cup.
