ST. LOUIS, MO — The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired six-time All-Star first basemen Paul Goldschmidt from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for catcher Carson Kelly, pitcher Luke Weaver, infielder Andy Young and a compensation pick in the 2019 MLB Draft.

Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak said the team has been busy over the offseason trying to improve thelineup. He called Goldschmidt one of baseball’s “premier players.”

And he’d be right.

Goldschmidt, 31, has been an All-Star in each of the last six seasons. He has four Silver Slugger Awards, according to MLB.com, and three Gold Glove Awards.

Hardcore stats junkies will be pleased too — Goldschmidt has been worth 36.3 wins above a replacement level player in his career, according to the gurus at Fangraphs. That includes 5.1 WAR last year.

The team plans to introduce their new superstar at a press conference Friday in St. Louis.
