Green Week conference to focus on waste management and resource efficiency
Resource efficiency and awareness of re-cycling will be on the agenda.
Researchers from European Union member states and representatives from business and NGOs will talk about better waste- management at the European Commission’s Green Week 2014 conference on 3-5 June. The event will also focus on circular economies, which is about re-using products and efficient use of resources.
The European Commission has prioritised resource efficiency in its Europe 2020 strategy, which sets out goals and guidelines for a sustainable economy. This year the Commission will set up new proposals that should increase the member states’ awareness of re-cycling.
The President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso and European Commissioner for the Environment Janez Potocˇnik will attend the opening session on 3 June.

Part of the Green Week is the New Environmentalism Summit on 3 June, at which representatives of NGOs and businesses will discuss a different approach to environmentalism campaigns and ways to increase their effectiveness.
At the event the 2017 competition for the European Green Capital Award will be launched.
