The events date back to 2012 — but the ‘Dalligate’ lobbying scandal still acts as a dark cloud hanging over EU officials heads, reminding them of the damage that shady lawmaking can do.

The case of John Dalli, then European commissioner for health and consumer policy, tarnished the European Commission’s reputation on lobbying transparency and instigated an ongoing overhaul of the EU’s transparency rules, which continues today.

The EU Court of Justice on Tuesday ruled to reject the former Health Commissioner’s claim that he was unfairly dismissed in October 2012 by then-Commission President José Manuel Barroso.
