Brussels bathed in Catalan flags
First they arrived in camper vans and buses parked all across Brussels. Then they flooded the Brussels Grand Place Wednesday night.
Catalan independence supporters — draped in the flags of the independence movement and flying the official flag of Catalonia, and chanting through carriages and along platforms — had by this morning taken over the Brussels metro system too.

Those that couldn’t squeeze onto the metro marched up the Brussels hills from their downtown hotels to Brussels’ EU district, forming a crowd of tens of thousands as their their metro-riding comrades emerged from underground.
Their message to EU leaders: they want the EU to intervene to smooth their path to nationhood, and stop siding with Madrid in the country’s constitutional crisis.
